With the regiment redeploying to Okinawa, 3rd Battalion's tour in Vietnam concluded December 1969. A professional, illustrious, and courageous combat record reflected the effectiveness of the Battalion's efforts in Vietnam. From the first major United States incursion of the war, "Operation Starlight" to the last "Steel line of defense" in northern I Corps Third Battalions combat record remained unblemished.
