My wife knows John's family

I was drawn to this website..I was in the Corp. from 71-73..never knew John but found out about him from my wife Debbie who grew up with his sister Lynn. She told me he was a great guy. This site is really something special as it honors men who lost their lives so we can enjoy our daily freedoms. I understand and respect that every day of my life. I wish I could have met John...it sounds like he was a great MARINE, son, brother and relative. John is what makes America so special. Semper FI. Chuck Vogland

"Bouncing Betty"
I served in the same battalion as John he was in Company H and I was in the H&S Company Admin Pool. While researching events during that time I found this Command Chronology (a unit diary) for November 1965 (2ND Battalion, 4th Marines). S-2 Significant Events "On 16 November 1965 - At 1844H (6:44PM) a corpsman (HM3 Navy - Ronald Ray Hornbrook) struck a "bouncing betty" mine with his entrenching tool which resulted in two friendly KIA's and nineteen WIA's. Cpl John J. Testa - I thought those who loved him may want more information on the circumstances surrounding his death. A Brother Marine.

I will always remember his lovely voice singing the Captain of his ship in "HMS Pinifore" in high school. He was kind and generous to all. He was a good listener. He loved a good joke, remember "mister rabbit". His Mom and Dad were always very proud of him, as were his brother and sister and his aunts uncles and cousins. Johnny,we love you.

My cousin Johnny was older and really a great guy. I looked up to him like a lot of my cousins did. He was always kind and respectful to us littler kids. He believed in fighting for his country and he said he wanted to protect us. I wish he would have seen things differently and figured out a way not to go to Vietnam. Johnny, you'll always be in my heart. Love, Cindy

Brother and Cousin

John will always be someone that is close to my heart. I remember him as a cousin and brother because of our relationship. He was a cousin but when we were together is was like having a brother to be with. I spent plenty of time with him during my youth and he always treated me great. We played ball together and spent time in California before he went to Viet Nam. I will always remember the last time I saw John. I took him to Camp Pendleton the night before he was to ship out. He never seemed nervous or complained about what he had to do for the Corp. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to know him and I miss him a lot.

Cousin

I was too young to remember him but, all the older cousins as well as my mom and dad told me what a great guy he was. I wish I could have met him and known him. I will tell my relatives and anyone that reads this that when I went to Washington D.C. and saw this enormous wall it overwhelmed me with grief. It was very exciting to me that I actually found John's name. well I guess that is all and that I do miss him even though I never got to meet him.

Close friend and brother in arms!
John, I remember you always. I just found this page today. It brought back all the memories of you & the good times we had double dating with Lezlee & Lucy in San Diego before we left for Nam. We did have a lot of fun times together; wish we could go back & do it all over again! I know I don't have to fill you in on the rest of my life because you're looking down & see everything going on here.  I'm visiting the traveling wall on my birthday next month; I'm planning on hanging a copy there for others to see. It's because every name on that wall also has a face! I remember you asking me if I'd double date with you; I'm so damn happy that I said yes! Semper Fi my friend; it won't be all that long before we can be back together again, please keep your eyes open for me! - 05/08/04
