Melvin D Holcomb

I was Melvin's Battery Commander at Con Thien. He was a excellent Marine and when he was hit by enemy artillery on that evening, he was in the process of leading a small group of men in resupplying our gun positions with ammo. We were very low due to trying to protect the Ninth Marines who were being overrun near the DMZ. An enemy round hit into our ammo dump as he was directing the loading of rounds onto a carrier.

Though this terrible event happened over 39 years ago, Staff Sergeant Holcomb remains in my thoughts and weekly at church, I remember him by name during the silent petitions that are offered. I will never forget him and pray that he receives his rewards in the next life as he was taken in this life much too young.

"Our dad is gone, but never forgotten"

I am the oldest son of Staff Sergeant Melvin D. Holcomb. I saw what you have done and it made me tear up. Is it possible to add a picture of him? I also have reel to reel recordings of my dad talking to us kids while in battle over seas but I am unable to locate a reel-to- reel player. If you ever broaden your site, will it be possible to add his voice? He Loved the Marine Corps so very much. He died doing what he loved and that was being a Marine.

Thanks again,

William C. Holcomb
