Wayne Hetcher; Wayne died August 28, 2008 "from end-stage primary liver disease" Ginny Hetcher: I hold the VMAC responsible for his death, due to medical negligence by an attending Physicians Assistant. I tried for him to demand an MD for for his care. He said he liked her. It cost him his life...
Wayne HetcherWayne & ??Wayne & ??Wayne, "AKA" John Wayne...
Wayne was a proud "0811" Approximitly 37 years after his Vietnam tour ended, Wayne was awarded a "long overdue" Bronze Star with V device for his actions with Delta Battery while under combat conditions.Wayne with 105 howitzer projectiles on his right and powder canisters in the left rear. He is kneeling in front of his 105 howitzer's ammo bunker.Wayne is wearing the "section chief's" wired radio headset. The section chief runs the gun crew, receives firing instructions from the battery FDC and relays them to the howitzer's "Gunner & A-Gunner," which in turn set the direction, elevation of the tube & fire the gun on command from FDC.Another "unknown" Delta Battery Marine; he appears to be in a gun crew bunker.Gun crew just before sunset; one of the "best times" to be on a gun (howitzer) crew was after dark in the bunker. The music played, letters were shared, card games played. lies told, and so on. Then the "night watches" started shortly after dark.A Marines "home" within the personal bunker. This particular set up would have been considered "luxurious " by most because of the mosquito net, "rubber lad" and private location, plus, it looks "dry.".
Battery cat...
Thick cardboard tubes; each one contain a 105 shell and brass canister. The tubes are in the wooden 105 boxes that are used to build almost all types of bunkers within the battery area. Each canister contains seven powder (charges) bags, joined by a thin string.A small amount of "John Wayne" in us all ;o)

Wayne Hetcher's "Bronze Star" ceremony , 37 years late but...The actual awarding of Wayne's Bronze Star.Wayne receiving congratulations from the battalion 1st Sergeant. Many awards remain unissued to this day due to administrative oversights, slights, or just plain mistakes. The road is long and usually unsuccessful when a marine trys to claim an award that should have been issued years ago from past

It was awarded thirty-seven years late but, awarded none-the-less to a deserving Marine.Wayne reading about the fire in "Stars & Stripes."Vietnam "washing machine" shaving stand, wash-up or whatever...Large air strike about a mile out from the perimeter. An approaching "Monsoon" storm...
